Jimmy Iommi: Bassist (1976–1979)

Jimmy Iommi was the vital bassist who anchored Riot’s rhythm section during their formative years, helping to forge the band's powerful sound on their crucial early releases.

Early Career with Riot

Iommi joined Riot shortly after the recording of their debut album began, replacing original bassist Phil Feit in late 1976. He quickly integrated into the lineup, contributing to the albums that defined the band's initial aggressive approach:

  • Rock City (1977): Iommi played bass on the majority of tracks after stepping in.

  • Narita (1979): He served as the primary bassist for this sophomore album.

His tenure with the band lasted approximately 1976 to 1979.

Departure and Legacy

Iommi, along with drummer Peter Betelli, departed the group in the summer of 1979 following the release of Narita.

While Jimmy Iommi shares his surname with the legendary Black Sabbath guitarist, he is a distinct figure, known for his foundational work in Riot. After leaving the band, he moved on to play in different musical ventures, reportedly shifting toward more Pop-oriented projects.

As with other early members who left the mainstream heavy metal scene, detailed personal information, such as his date of birth, is not generally available in public music databases. His contribution, however, remains essential to the history of the early Riot sound.
